Amazon is where most people go-to for products, 70% of all sales on amazon is by 3rd party sellers only 30% of these products are sold by amazon itself. Amazon also buys products from the brands and sells them directly on Amazon. Other brands are what we call private labels.

So, you want to sell your products on Amazon in 2020 but you don’t know how to start. Don’t worry,  Today I’m going to walk you through the 5 most important steps you need to effectively begin selling on amazon to make cool money.

The most important knowledge you need is how to choose winning products and how to get them in front of the customer’s eyes successfully.

By the way, what is this Amazon FBA all about?

What is Amazon FBA?

The term FBA stands for fulfilled by amazon where amazon fulfills the orders for you. It is a program where amazon provides warehousing, packaging, and delivery assistance to the sellers on Amazon.

In simple words, Amazon FBA does all the hard work for the sellers. If you as a seller send your products to Amazon centers located around the world, your products will be stored securely and be sent to customers whenever an order is placed and you get paid.

How Amazon FBA works is, you become a third party seller on Amazon by creating an Amazon seller account. Now the way the process works is you are going to send products into amazon’s warehouse after you’ve done your product research and made sure that the product has high demand but low competition.

Then when someone comes along and finds that product on amazon.com and  buy it you get paid a percentage of that and amazon ships the product out for you.you simply have amazon take care of all that for you instead of paying someone else to do it

  1.  Find products from China or cheaper markets,
  2. Get them made and shipped to the Amazon fulfillment center,

Let’s say you buy a product for $1 from China and sell it for $16 on Amazon, Amazon takes their fee for handling all the hard work for you, You get paid the profit which is the difference between what you pay and what you sell it for on amazon. How Much Money you’ll need to start an Amazon FBA business

It depends, You can either do all the work yourself or outsource some work like logo designs, product photography, etc.

However, some costs are fixed when it comes to opening an Amazon FBA account, especially if you decide to choose the professional plan where you need to pay a fee of $39.99, in addition to that you need to buy a UPC of $10 which becomes a total of $50 approximately.

You will also buy inventory which can cost you around $100 or more, depending on what products you choose to sell and how much money you’re willing to spend but $50, is a compulsory fee for the professional sellers.

How To Start an Amazon FBA business in 5 Easy Steps

The first step is to create an Amazon Seller’s account.

Step 1-How to Create Amazon FBA Account

visit the ‘Sell on Amazon‘ page to create a new Amazon FBA Account. Read all the guidelines and register. Now when you first sign up there are 2 kinds of accounts.

#1- Amazon FBA Professional account

There is an individual account and a professional seller’s account. An individual account is free however anytime you sell something not only will you pay the fulfillment fee the fee is for amazon fulfilling it for you, the storage fee and the referral fee this end up being around 33% of the price you are selling your product for so just keep that in mind when you sell your product for a $100 33% of that goes to Amazon.

That might seem unfair at first but the more you understand how these work you don’t have to spend money on marketing to get people to buy your products because they are already on amazon people are already finding them it is way less money to pay amazon to do that for yourself through an eCommerce online website.

#2- Amazon FBA individual account

when you get an individual sellers account it’s free but anytime you sell something then you pay approximately a total of 33% in fees but you are also paying additional 99 cents this is a per item fee and it’s for the privilege to sell on their platform you are paying them a fee for that.

The major difference between both plans is,

  1. Creating an individual plan is free,
  2. But you will pay a handling fee of 33% on cost and $0.99 for each product you sell. the $0.99 is a fee for using their platform.
  3. The number of products you can list and sell with the individual plan is limited.

So the first thing you need to do is you need to understand the process and the first step to that process is to sign up for an account.

When you get the professional sellers account, which costs 39.99$ a month you don’t have to pay the per-item fee. the advantage of having the professional sellers account is you get access to run ads on amazon.when you join the PSA you have the options for ads you also have what is called the business report

These are reports you can download and look at to understand how your business is doing and what you need to do to tweak it so that you can optimize your success and make more money and keep expanding your store.

There is no limit to selling on amazon guys, there is no cap, you can make more money and just keep growing.

However, in the professional plan, You will be required to pay $39.99 per month. With this Account you are allowed to list and sell unlimited numbers of products, you can run PPC ads, you also have access to your store reports to see how well your store is doing and if you need to tweak anything. The professional plan has no limitations.

If you want to sell more than 40 products per month, I highly recommend you buy the professional plan but if you are going to be selling fewer quantities of products per month then you can opt for the individual plan.

After selecting your preferred plan, you’ll need to provide the following requirements to Amazon:-

  • Legal Name
  • Business Name & Address
  • Mobile or Telephone Number
  • Chargeable Credit Card
  • Tax Information (If you buy a professional plan)

After filling the above information, you will need to verify your identity through a phone call or text message.

Lastly, you’ll need to type in your Credit card details for payments, and Bank details for deposits, after that your Amazon seller account will be successfully created. Now let’s move on to step number 2.

Step 2 How to Find Products for your Amazon FBA business

Product research is the most important step of the entire amazon FBA process. If you pick the right product you can do everything wrong and still make money but if you pick the wrong product, it will be very hard to make money even though you do everything right

Finding products that have high demand and low competition is important. It is very easy to make money If you pick the right product,  and there are several tools you can use to do this.

  1. Viral launch and product discovery
  2. Jungle scout/ free tool

This software are web apps as well as chrome extensions What these pieces of software do is that it allows you to identify the diamond in the rubs

Products that have a lot of sales but don’t have a lot of reviews or don’t have many sellers. So what you do is you come in and identify those {disparities) differences.

Find products that are in the sweet spot that have a lot of monthly searches and have a lot of people looking for them but they don’t have good product offerings currently being sold on amazon. or the sellers who are offering it are offering low quality.

or if there’s room for improvement by bundling those products together and doing different numbers of things to add quality and value.

When you find your product the next step is to find a supplier who can build or make the product for you and the easiest way to do this is to go to ALIBABA.

Alibaba is the search engine of suppliers. You should find a manufacturer for your product on Alibaba.

Now Alibaba is not a supplier itself, they don’t even partner with suppliers. It is more like a business networking platform where there are tons of opportunities to talk to, negotiate, and connect with suppliers.

Alibaba is a directory of manufacturers and it’s a massive company in China founded by jack ma.

Everything you can imagine is made in china.

Whatever you want to have made, you go on Alibaba and then search with the product name or picture.

Go to alibaba.com, come here to the top and type in the product you want to buy. Now it’s going to pull up a whole bunch of different suppliers.

And so there are a few pieces of criteria that you should be looking for to make sure you work with trustworthy suppliers.

The next thing you want to do is click on trade assurance and gold supplier and if you want to be extra safe you can click on the assessed supplier. now this filters out anyone I won’t trust.

  1. Gold suppliers are suppliers that have a gold badge. They have been pre-qualified and have to pay a minimum of $2000 just to get on this platform. Usually, scammers are not willing to pay that much money, they want anything cheap and free.
  1. Accessed means that a third party company visited that supplier and assured that they have a legit warehouse facility and they are building the product as a factory should.
  1. And trade assurance means you can get your money back in case you get screwed over by the supplier. When you purchase anything, use the trade assurance option that means if they screw you over you will go back to Alibaba and put in a claim and say look this is not what I was looking for. This is not the right product and that way the supplier can’t hurt you and take your money.
  1. You will also want to find manufacturers that have years of the transaction history
  1. And also verified suppliers
  1. They should have an online presence like a website
  1. They should have a phone number that you can call
  1. Also, check things like product reviews,

Make sure they are a legitimate and real company, real people and website, ones you do that What you wanna do is reach out to the top 5 manufacturers based on the criteria I just listed and then request for a quote.

Contact the Supplier

Why you want to request a quote from more than one manufacturer is because this will help you to know if it is a good deal or not.

Click to contact the supplier and request them to tell you how much it costs to order a certain quantity of the product you intend to purchase.

Make sure to study your competitor’s critical reviews to find out what customers don’t like about the product then you build your product to fix those problems.

And you do that by talking to the suppliers on Alibaba and say look I want the battery of these products to be 1000 mah because your competitors are doing 500mah and customers are complaining, that’s how you differentiate. People will have a reason to buy from you instead of your competitor

Also, ask questions like “how much will you charge to make 100 or 1000 pieces of XYZ?” The reason why I say 100 and 1000 are because sometimes the manufacturers will say  “for 100 pieces I will give you for $2 per piece“ and “for 1000 pcs I will give you for half the price which is $1”.

The more quantity you buy, the cheaper it becomes. Because it costs the manufacturer’s more money to produce fewer quantities of a product than larger quantities.

Sometimes you can try to negotiate further and say something like “well I will make the deal right now if you give me 100 pieces for $1 per pcs”. Try to get a good deal.

Manufacturers have what they call MOQ which is minimum order quantity.

When you are starting, order for little products as possible so that you can stay in stock for 3 months which is generally the longest amount of time it takes to restock or you want to have a few units as possible to never go out of stock.

So once you talk to your supplier and you come up with an agreement, they are going to give you a little form to fill out make sure to include everything you need don’t say “oh I want one that looks like this one in the picture”.

You need to say I want one that is 6 inches in diameter, I want one that is this and that specification, try to be specific about what you want. Send a description and pictures of what you want, ask for samples.

Buy from factories instead of trading companies

Try to buy from a factory instead of a trading company because they are just middlemen. Get direct contact with the manufacturer the easiest way to know if you are dealing with a factory or a middle man is by clicking on the company profile.

If you use the filtering options I showed you above to filter out the scammers, it’s very unlikely that you are going to be screwed over or scammed because these are legitimate suppliers they are there for a reason.

A scamming supplier will rarely allow trade assurance as a payment option when they realize they can’t cheat you because Alibaba uses a third party escrow service to hold that money. For whatever goes into that account you have to click a button and say I approve of that product before the supplier gets paid, and this is nice because it protects the buyers from getting scammed.

Once you get your product created you will get a freight forwarder which is very easy to do that handles all the shipping to Amazon FBA warehouse.

when you send your product to Amazon warehouse to start making money, I recommend you have the supplier print the FNSKU  label on the retail packaging of the product so that when the item goes from the supplier it goes to the Amazon warehouse and they stock it up for you and when sellers begin to find your product and start buying it you get payment from amazon every 2 weeks and you can set up direct deposit into your account.

Step 4 – Amazon FBA LISTING

While your product is in the air you are going to be doing your listing. This is creating a listing of your products on amazon.

All of us have used amazon, all of us have bought stuff on amazon You see a product listing it’s just a basic listing it shows what the price is right it has like 6 images, the bullet points describing what it is, It has the title and description, Back end keywords and SEO optimization.

Now Amazon is a product search engine so you want to make sure that your product shows the highest in the search results for the keyword that you want to have your product shown for you want to optimize properly to rank on the first page.

That’s how you get to make sales, and that’s how you get organic sales. So use a website called Zonkeywords.com this is by far the best when it comes to finding profitable keywords to rank your product for so that the most targeted eye or those people who want to buy your product see your product

So ones you create your listing you wanna make sure that it is optimized for the keyword that you want to rank for and you also want to make sure that your pictures are on point one of the biggest mistake people make when they start amazon FBA is they try to take the pictures of the products with their wrong phone.

Step 5 -Amazon FBA  product launch

When launching your product you want to make sure that it ranks on the first page of amazon when anybody types in the name of the product you want your own to appear on the first page on amazon. You need to be on page 1 and understand how to get there.

You want to make sure that you are getting 2 things done right, you need review How do you do that

The best way is called the amazon early reviewer program-what this is is that you pay amazon $60 for reviews and amazon incentivize a lot of their customers to leave an honest review on your product and you are only eligible if your product has zero reviews and amazon will get you from zero to 5 for $60.

Don’t start your launch and PPC until you have 3 to  5 reviews.
